The campaign for Florida's 2nd congressional seat has taken another nasty turn.
A company owned by Republican candidate Bev Kilmer's husband, Larry, is suing her Democratic opponent, Allen Boyd, for defamation of character.
The lawsuit stems from a political television ad with the sentence "Bev Kilmer passed a bill and her family company got $600,000.”
The Allen Boyd commercial is referring to Larry Kilmer's company, All-Tech Southeast, which makes security gates.
As a member of the Florida House of Representatives, Beverly Kilmer sat on a board which approved a $600,000 grant from the Department of Community Affairs. The money went to the city of Quincy in Gadsden County to develop an industrial park to attract new employees to the community.
All-Tech, Kilmer's husband's company, opened its new headquarters in that park. All-Tech's lawsuit asks for in excess of $15,000 in damages.
