Florida's Oldest Living Person Has Died at Age 111

Eleanor Maebelle Barnes Gallops Plant died Tuesday in Florida's Panhandle. The Los Angeles Gerontology Research Group says the woman known as “Granny Plant” was the ninth oldest person in the United States.

Plant arrived in Baker in North Okaloosa County by covered wagon in 1911 with her parents and 10 siblings from Brantley, Alabama.

She was a resident of the Pea Ridge area in Santa Rosa County near Pensacola most of her adult life.

She was known for voting in every election since women were given suffrage in 1920. She was also active with her church.
