The end of the summer season usually signals the start of higher unemployment in Northwest Florida. But, that doesn’t seem to be the case this year.
New figures released by the State for the month of September show unemployment actually dropped slightly in September here in Bay County. The jobless rate had been 3.9 percent in August and dropped a tenth of a point in September.
The same was true in most other area counties where decreases in the unemployment numbers were noted.
The only exception was Franklin County, the Apalachicola area, where there was a slight increase, about a third of a percent.
All the area numbers were way below the statewide jobless average rate of 4.7 percent for September.
