What started with a fight in Greenhead Sunday afternoon apparently escalated into much more Monday morning.
Bay County sheriff's investigators say three men got into an argument, then supposedly patched up their differences.
"It was a senseless act of violence.” That's Bay County Sheriff's Office Capt. Jimmy Stanford on what happened at a home on Two Trail Road in north Bay County early Monday morning.
About 6:30 people inside the home were awakened by the sounds of gunshots.
Investigators say 28-year-old Jason Croff of Fountain had slit the throat of 23-year-old William David Carlisle and shot 20-year-old Daniel Scott Andrews while the men were sleeping.
Capt. Stanford said when Carlisle tried to fight back, he was also shot.
“Normally, when you have a homicide you know, it's domestic violence related or revenge or robbery or something. There's nothing indicated like that in this case."
Investigators say Croff stole a truck at the home after the throat slashing and shootings and took off. He was spotted in Washington County where deputies gave chase. Croff was stopped near Highway 79 and I-10 in Holmes County a short time later.
Deputies had to talk Croff down after he reportedly put a gun in his mouth when he was pulled over. He finally surrendered the gun and himself.
Carlisle and Andrews, the two victims, are both listed in critical condition at a Panama City hospital. Sources tell NewsChannel Seven neither man is doing well.
Croff is being brought back to Bay County, where he faces at least two counts of attempted murder.
Investigators think drugs may have played a part in the incident. They're searching the home after reportedly finding crystal meth there Monday morning.
