Panama City Wins the Latest Round in Annexation Wars

Panama City is now free to pursue its annexations in Goose Bayou and Bayou George.

On a 3-2 vote, the Bay County Commission decided against contesting the city’s plans to annex the Pine Islands in Goose Bayou.

Local developer Fred Webb plans to build 13 luxury homes on the islands. Opponents contended the annexation was illegal. The commission also decided against battling plans by Panama City to annex property at the intersection of Highway 231 and State Road 390.

The town of Cedar Grove claimed the annexation was illegal and initially gained support from the county to block Panama City’s efforts, but it lost that ally Tuesday.
