Library Loses County Money Battle

Bay County commissioners this week voted 4-1 to cancel plans to commit $8 million for library replacement or improvements.

Earlier the county said it tentatively wanted to allocate $8 million in revenue bonds to either build a new library or make major renovations to the old facility on the downtown marina.

The idea was to use revenue bonds so ad valorum (property tax) money wouldn’t be used for the project.

However, the county now says it wants to wait for the results of a building survey before it makes any financial commitments.
