Panama City Getting Close to Hiring New Police Chief

The Panama City Police Department has been operating with an interim police chief since July when David Slusser stepped down from the job.

It now looks like the city is ready to make a decision on a permanent replacement.

City Manager Ken Hammons has announced the five finalists for the job. They are:

Acting-Interim Police Chief John Van Etten

Robert J. Daniels, the Assistant Chief of the Boca Raton Police Department

William McCollom, Deputy Chief of the Delray Beach Police Department

Anthony J. Smith, Chief of Law Enforcement for the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco

David Lyons, Chief of the Garden City, Georgia Police Department near Savannah

Hammons says city officials will interview all five candidates between now and next Wednesday. He said he expects to make a decision shortly after the final interview.
