A Panhandle family finally got word Monday afternoon that one of their loved ones was not a tsunami casualty.
Bonifay resident Chris Howell works for a shrimping company in Malaysia. His wife, daughter and grandson were visiting him for the holidays.
After seeing all of the images of the damage, his family back here says they were happy to hear some good news. It turns out the Howell's were on the other side of the peninsula that was hit by the tsunamis.
Their family in Bonifay heard from them Monday.
Freddie Howell says, "Chris, Martha, their daughter and their little four-year-old grandson are all alive and well. There was very minor effects of the tsunami in their territory."
Howell worked in the shrimping business in Colombia before going to Malaysia, but he left South America because of the political problems.
