Saltwater anglers who fish Bay County are reminded that Warren Bayou, also known as the “Steam Plant Canal” at Gulf Power’s Lansing Smith Generating Plant, is closed to the taking of all fish from Nov. 1 through Feb. 28.
“The closure applies as well to the taking of baitfish,” said Capt. Ken Parramore, area law enforcement supervisor for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. “The closure takes effect each winter to protect many species of fish which seek refuge in the warm waters of the plant’s discharge canal on North Bay.”
For those marine recreational anglers who venture out into the Gulf of Mexico, red snapper may not be taken from Nov. 1 through April 14 in state and federal waters.
The red snapper fishery reopens April 15 in state waters and April 21 in federal waters.
