For some people, the Bay Towne trolley service means more than just a ride.
Cancer patients Hannis and Shirley Adams say the trolley is a lifesaver and they appreciate it.
Bay Towne trolley drivers showed their appreciation for Hannis and Shirley, voting them “trolley rider of the year.” The couple relies on the service to get them to their doctor's appointments and cancer treatment sessions.
For winning the honor, the Adams’ receive free trolley passes for a year, dinner at the Golden Corral, free passes to the St. Andrews State Park and free Shell Island cruises from Captain Anderson’s.
General Manager Doug Boice says that the drivers say the couple deserves the honor.
"Everyone of our drivers unanimously elected them as our riders for the year because they've been so good and they ride all the time and always had a kind word and just great people."
The trolley also announced its support for the American Cancer Society's Lifeline Program, ensuring patients get to and from cancer treatments by volunteers and public transportation.
