One thing that didn't come up during Tuesday’s county commission meeting is a proposal to cut funding for a new library.
Bay County library director George Vickery says now is not the time to put the library on the back burner and asked commissioners to fulfill the previous commission's promise of $8 million.
The county spends about $9.50 per citizen on the library, less than almost every other county in the state. Commissioner Jerry Girvin suggested several options to renourish the library.
"Building an addition to the library, either behind or in front of the present building and moving into that and then renovating the existing library."
Commissioner George Gainer was reportedly going to ask the commission Tuesday to rethink the $8 million allocation for the library, but he did not bring up the motion. In fact, the commission took no action on the library.
