Mardi Gras

For the third year in a row, Mother Nature said "let it rain,” but as always, the party that is the St. Andrews Mardi Gras celebration continues.

Saturday's activities began at 8 a.m. with the 5-K Gulf Coast medical run. Onlookers and many participants cheered their fellow runners on as they crossed the finish line.

Getting up early for many of us can be a chore, but for these athletes, there's always a reason to run.

About two hours later, our favorite four legged friends took to the street for the Humane Society Mardi Gras pet parade. Mostly dogs participated, and they mostly got along, but even a turtle got in on some of the action.

And finally, the main event, the Mardi Gras parade. Hundreds lined Beck Avenue hoping to snag beads and trinkets from the many floats the passed by.

The parade also featured local law enforcement and rescue personnel along with state Speaker of the House, Rep. Allan Bense.

No luck in avoiding the rain this time, but there's always next year.
