Local divers went for quite a plunge Saturday morning, using what could be the oldest operational diving suit in existence.
Bay County resident Capt. Laney Rinehart spent several years and a lot of money collecting the pieces to assemble this mock five suit, which includes a helmet from 1945 valued at $9,000.
It weighs more than 190 pounds. That's more than some of the people who wore it this weekend. Nowadays divers use suits that weigh only 28 pounds.
Rinehart let a few local divers experience history by suiting up and going for a 20 minute dive at Saint Andrews Marina Saturday.
Some of Rinehart's equipment was used in the movie "Men of Honor."
