The commissioning of the U-S-S Mesa Verde is just a few days away and one local musician is using his talents to show support for our military.

Steve Wiggens is releasing a special C-D called “Mesa Verde Moments”. It’s filled with original songs inspired by the Navy’s newest warship. At a C-D release party at the Paul Brent Gallery in downtown Panama City, Wiggens played several tracks from the C-D that he describes as easy listening with a southwestern flavor.

"It makes me feel good when people come up to me and say, hey I like your music and know that I am doing something good for the military. It makes me feel good."

All proceeds from the sale of Wiggins C-D will go to the commissioning committee and the sailors morale welfare and recreation fund.

Artist Paul Brent not only did the artwork for the C-D cover but also created a special painting of the Mesa Verde that will hang in the ship’s library.

"It was really interesting to play the shape of the Mesa Verde, the cliff dwellings off the ship. So I put them up in the sky like it's almost a formation of clouds so that was an exciting part to be able to put those together."

If you would like to buy a copy of “Mesa Verde Moments”, you can find them at Paul Brent’s Gallery, Jane’s Expressions and Wiggins Auto Parts.

Meanwhile, the crew of the Mesa Verde is keeping busy all week.

A few of them will be appearing on News Channel 7 Today, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Tuesday and Wednesday the sailors are teaming up with Habitat for Humanity to do some construction work around the area.

Thursday is the Commissioning Classic Golf Tournament at Hombre Golf Club at Panama City Beach where each team is paired up with a sailor.

And the commissioning ceremony takes place Saturday at 10 am at Port Panama City. The Commissioning will be seen on live streaming from www.wjhg.com
