Longtime local PBS broadcaster Les Spencer has died.
Spencer became a legend at the college and in the community when he first took over the management of the Gulf Coast Community College radio stations WKGC AM and WKGC-FM back 1983.
College President Dr. Bob McSpadden said Spencer passed away in his sleep during the night. He noted Spencer had a long and historic career in public radio from its inception years ago. His voice had become the hallmark of the Gulf Coast radio stations.
McSpadden noted that although Spencer had retired, he still maintained a real presence for Commodore sports broadcasting and for his excellent and acclaimed work with WKGC-AM.
Funeral services for Spencer are incomplete.
