House of Chan Closes

The popular Chinese restaurant, House of Chan, is closed its doors on Valentine's Day to make way for condominiums. It's just one of three parcels of land on St. Andrews Bay sold to a developer for a new condo project.

It was a bittersweet night for many loyal customers of the House of Chan. They came out not only to celebrate Valentine's Day with their sweetheart, but also to get one last taste of some of the best Chinese food before these doors close.

Condos are expected to replace the waterfront restaurant. It sold for $2 million to H&R Investments back in October.

The restaurant's owner, Fannie Chan, says after 17 years of hard work she's ready for a vacation, but don't worry, Chan says the vacation won't be a permanent one.

"The House of Chan will be back. Give me six months for break.”

“So you're going to relocate?”

“I will do it. Give me time to find the best place," says Fannie Chan.

The development company H&R Investments has also bought the property next door where canopies restaurant now sits as well as Bay Villa Motel. The owner of Canopies says his lease for the restaurant is not up for another two years and he doesn't plan to close.
