Two Serious Accidents at the Beach

A Panama City Beach man remains in critical condition after being hit by a car Wednesday night in the 15,000 block of Front Beach Road.

Witnesses say Stanley Thomas was walking from a convenience store when he stopped in the middle of the road. That’s when an elderly Canadian couple hit him causing severe head injuries.

Maj. Dave Humphreys is the Assistant Chief of the Beach Police Department and says, "According to witnesses, the pedestrian that was struck was walking back from this Sun Mart convenience store south across Front Beach Road. For some unknown reason, the witnesses state that he stopped in the road and bent over. At that point the driver that was eastbound on Front Beach Road struck him."

Investigators say Thomas had been drinking and alcohol and it may have been a factor in the incident.

That accident came on the heels of another bad pileup on Back Beach Road. This one involved three vehicles at one of the beach's deadliest intersection, Back Beach and Beckrich roads.

Police say a woman was trying to turn left from Back Beach Road into the Home Depot parking lot when a car t-boned her. Two adults and two kids were hurt. A third car was also involved.

Fortunately, it looks like everyone will be ok.

In the past few years at least five people have been killed in accidents at the intersection.
