Investigators are still trying to find out what caused a fire at a motel on Front Beach Road just west of Highway 79 Thursday afternoon.
The blaze was discovered shortly after 2:00 p.m. at the Sandpiper-Beacon Resort. The second floor motel room on fire was fully engulfed in flames when firemen arrived. It was gutted.
Panama City Beach and Thomas Drive firefighters kept the flames from spreading to other rooms at the motel and had it under control in a matter of minutes.
None of the guests were hurt, but one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.
The dollar amount of the loss hasn’t been established yet, but the room where the fire apparently started was destroyed.
