Getting to the Water

Leaders from four different communities met in St. Andrews Thursday to explore ways to attract more visitors.

Each participates or wants to be a part of the Waterfronts Florida Program, receiving grants to help the revitalization the state's waterfronts.

Leaders from Panacea, Apalachicola, Port St. Joe and St. Andrews discussed ways to work together in a tourist recruiting effort.

All agree the dynamic of tourism in northwest Florida is changing rapidly.

Carol Davis from Port St. Joe says working together is a great benefit.

"So, if they're coming down for the weekend, see if they could stay in Panacea and visit Port St. Joe and Apalachicola and Bay County also, and if they're in Bay County, to go east. So, stay for a little while and just extend their stay."

Port St. Joe is not part of the Waterfronts Program, but it is a possible candidate for the state grant.
