Two young brothers allegedly abducted from a relative's Springfield home by their mother were found safe Monday afternoon.
Seven-year-old David Howard and his two-year-old brother, Caleb, were found in nearby Walton County, according to Sgt. Lamar Hobbs of the Springfield Police Department. Both children were in good condition at the Walton Sheriff's Office in DeFuniak Springs and will be turned over to the state Department of Children and Families.
Police say the boys' mother, 26-year-old Angela Howard, and 36-year-old Steve Buchanan had taken them Sunday night. Howard is charged with interference with custody, burglary and battery.
After the alleged abduction, authorities issued an Amber Alert and law enforcement agencies in Florida, Georgia and Alabama looked for the boys.
Howard took the boys after barging into the home of the boys' great aunt and uncle, police said. She allegedly hit the boys' paternal grandmother, who was holding Caleb and took him away from her.
Buchanan helped in the abduction by taking David from the front yard.
Howard later dropped off Buchanan in Calhoun County where he was arrested at 8 a.m. Monday and was charged with interference with custody.
The brothers had been removed from Howard's care two weeks ago by the state Department of Children & Families and placed in the care of their great aunt and uncle.
Last summer, Howard took the boys from Calhoun County and disappeared before they were found in the area of Valdosta, GA, Green said. The children were found safe.
