Goose Bayou Goes to Court

Bay County commissioners may have decided not to challenge Panama City's annexation of a portion of Goose Bayou, but residents living near the tiny Pine Islands are not giving up their fight.

About 20 residents and environmentalists of the area filed suit Thursday challenging the Panama City Commission's decision to annex. They also are opposed to the decision to change the land use of the Pine Islands of South Goose Bayou marsh.

The group had asked the county to challenge Panama City, but came out on the short end of a 3 to 2 vote.

One of the protestors, Louise Berry, says they're not surprised by the county's lack of support.

"It makes us angry that we elected these county commissioners to uphold the law, and that meant of the state, county and city, and they're just not doing their job."

Local developer Fred Webb is planning to build 13 luxury homes on the islands.
