Rape Conviction Results in 297 Year Prison Sentence

A New Jersey man convicted of beating and raping an 85-year-old Dothan woman probably will never see freedom again. He has been sentenced to a total of 297 years in prison.

Butch Binford, an assistant district attorney in Houston County, said Kenneth Eugene Bryant "deserved every day of it."

The crime occurred in 1993 and went unsolved until 2001 when forensics experts matched DNA samples to Bryant, who was on parole in Mobile and was brought back to Dothan to stand trial.

Last week a jury convicted Bryant of rape, sodomy and attempted murder.

Prosecutors said the elderly victim died in 1998.
