Panama City Beach police estimate they raised $150,000 at their annual property surplus auction Saturday morning. That's 50 percent more than they had hoped.

Perhaps the good turnout is the reason for the success. More than 600 people braved the chilly early morning air. They lined up outside the Beach Police Department starting at 7:00 a.m. in hopes of getting some good deals on retired police cars, city trucks, laptop computers and stereos.

Also available was a 1995 Yamaha outboard motor and four all-terrain vehicles.

David Humphreys, PCB Deputy Chief of Police, said, "We're very happy with the sale. We had some good quality things Sunday that people got a good deal on while we got good proceeds also.”

The money will put in the Law Enforcement Trust Fund to pay for new equipment.
