Murder Trial Ends With Guilty Verdict on a Lesser Charge

A Panama City Beach man who killed his wife has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

A Bay County Circuit Court jury convicted Gary Lee Browning of manslaughter in the death of his 36-year-old wife, Georgia Lee Browning, last July.

Browning beat and strangled his wife on July 8 at the Majestic Motel on Front Beach Road. That’s where the couple lived.

Browning admits to the crime, but said his wife was drunk that night when he arrived home from work, and attacked him with a knife several times, so he knocked her down and strangled her.

Jurors could have found Browning guilty of second degree murder, but went with the lesser manslaughter charge.

The judge sentenced him to the maximum penalty of 15 years.
