Long before tourism and the military, trees were Bay County's biggest industry.
The local paper mill in Millville has supported thousands of families with good paying jobs for decades.
The man responsible for the mill for the last 16 years is calling it quits. Jack Prescott is retiring as the general manager of the Smurfit-Stone operation in Panama City.
Prescott caps a 40-year career in the paper industry. One of the highlights came in 2003 when Smurfit-Stone named the Panama City facility its mill of the year.
Prescott hands over the reigns on January 15 to Bobby Sammons. Sammons has been with Smurfit-Stone since 1969, most recently managing one of its mills in Ohio.
