$70.7 Million Stadium, Museum Complex Proposed for Pensacola

A proposed $70 million private-public project would transform Pensacola's waterfront with a minor league baseball stadium, maritime museum, conference center-auditorium, fishing pier, businesses and tree-lined park.

Health care consultant Quint Studer is the owner of the Pensacola Pelicans baseball team. He, along with two other community leaders, say they'll present the plan to the City Council on Tuesday.

The project is proposed for the same 27 acres of city-owned land on Pensacola Bay the council planned to use for a $40 million auditorium and park until voters rejected the idea in 2003.

Critics say that project for the former industrial site was too costly and other needs were more pressing.
