Four days before Christmas, a 33-year-old Panama City woman was arrested for attempting to prostitute her eight-year-old daughter for $100.
Panama City Police charged Sue Ellen Mims with one count of selling a minor for prostitution.
Police were contacted by a man who said he was in the 2000 block of Harrison Avenue on Wednesday morning when Mims offered him her eight-year-old daughter in exchange for $100. The man said Mims told him the girl would do anything he wanted.
The man told police he does not know Mims or her daughter.
Mims was arrested a short time later, and her daughter was taken by the Department of Children and Families. Police said DCF has been able to place the girl with family members, which is the department's policy in such situations.
DCF has been receiving calls from people wishing to help the girl. A spokesman with DCF said the girl was taken with just the clothes she was wearing. They said she wears six 7-8 clothing and that she also had no toys, dolls, blankets or other items to comfort her.
Michael Guilfoyle, the DCF Child Protection supervisor, said any items for the girl can be brought to the Gulf Coast Children Advocacy Center, 201 E. 11th St., Panama City.
