A Jackson County man will spend at least the next 25 years in prison for murdering a friend.
Circuit Judge William Wright sentenced Tommy Cochrane to life in prison for the murder of 43-year-old Ricky Meredith.
Meredith was stabbed in the chest at a Marianna last February.
Investigators say Cochrane and Meredith had been drinking at Cochrane's house. Cochrane claims he was worried about Meredith driving home drunk, and the two men started arguing.
Both men supposedly pulled knives. Cochrane claimed Meredith fell on one of the knives, but last month a jury saw it differently, finding Cochrane guilty of second degree murder.
Cochrane could appeal the murder conviction. Judge Wright also sentenced him to five years for violating probation.
