Authorities say a Pensacola couple has been charged with aggravated abuse of a four-month-old boy hospitalized with 22 broken bones, severe burns and other injuries.
Escambia County sheriff's officials say Beverly Long told deputies that she is the mother of the baby and that her boyfriend, David Culver, is the father, but deputies could not confirm paternity.
Deputies say Long told them that she thought Culver was abusing the baby. She said Culver told her to lie about how the baby received the burns. She also said she heard Culver whisper about wanting to kill the baby.
Deputies say Culver told them he was aware of the baby's injuries but did not seek medical care because he was afraid the child could be taken away.
The couple is being held in the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola without bond.
