A severe thunderstorm rolled out of the Gulf of Mexico and into Panama City, Port. St. Joe and Apalachicola shortly after 7 a.m. Friday morning.
The storm dropped several inches of rain in just a few minutes. The result was severe street flooding and standing water in many of the low lying areas around town. One of the worst areas was either side of the Hathaway Bridge when the runoff caused flooded streets and drowned cars.
Gulf Power reported a number of power outages attributed to the severe lighting that was popping all around the area. The power outages caused street lights to fail, and that caused backups at major intersections across the county.
