State Rep. David Coley of Marianna has died.
Coley died Friday afternoon. He was diagnosed at Christmastime with cancer of the liver, which had spread to his spine.
Coley was being treated at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
One of his proudest moments was being sworn into the Florida Legislature just last November. He replaced Bev Kilmer, who left the House to run for congressman.
Coley was no stranger to House politics, serving as chief legislative aide to House Speaker Allan Bense for several years.
Coley was only 43. He died around 4:00 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with family and friends at his bedside. Also on hand was his close friend, Allan Bense, who had been at Coley’s bedside since before dawn Friday morning.
