Northwest Florida Storm Damage

It may have been gray and muggy in Panama City this past weekend, but the severe weather we expected didn’t show up here. It did materialize just to the west and did cause some heavy damage at one military installation.

Navy officials are assessing the damage to airplanes, helicopters, buildings and vehicles at Whiting Field in Milton, about 30 miles northeast of Pensacola.

The base suffered damage to many of its helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

Whiting field commander Capt. Joan Paltz says there is a lot of damage to flat top roofs and a lot of vehicles.

Whiting is home to U.S. Navy flight training for student pilots. The base has 121 Sea Ranger Helicopters and 151 airplanes.
