President's Mom Surprise Speaker at Northwest Florida Economic Meeting

Former First Lady Barbara Bush took her literacy campaign to a northwest Florida meeting on economics.

She was introduced as the surprise keynote speaker for the symposium sponsored by Gulf Power.

She had asked her son, President Bush, and her husband, former President George HW Bush, for advice on what she should do to help the country .

Her son told her to go out and buy, buy, buy. Her husband told her to go out in the front yard, hold hands and sing 'God Bless America.'

Mrs. Bush says literacy programs could boost the nation's economy.

Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings was another speaker. She says she agrees that a well-educated work force is the state's best economic development tool, but the lieutenant governor also promised more tax cuts to help stimulate the economy.
