Springfield Police Chief David Barnes was suspended last week after a chase involving one of his officers.
The suspension was turned into a firing Thursday. Barnes met with Springfield Mayor Gene Stockwell Thursday morning and left the mayor's office as the city's “former” police chief.
It has been suggested by some that the mayor's suspension of Barnes was a way of getting back at the chief for past run-ins, including the arrest of his son several years ago.
Mayor Stockwell declined to comment on camera, but he did provide us with a copy of Barnes' termination letter.
