A high speed chase Wednesday night in Gulf County sends the suspects and some innocent bystanders to the hospital.
The incident began at 8 p.m. Wednesday when Gulf County sheriff's deputies tried to pull over two men in a stolen truck. The men stopped, then allegedly to run over the deputies as they approached the truck.
Gulf County deputies set spike strips near the intersection of Pine Street and Highway 98 in St. Joe Beach. The suspects swerved to miss the spike strips and plowed into three vehicles, which deputies had asked to pull to the side of the road.
Two people in one of the SUVs had minor injuries. The driver of the stolen truck, 33-year-old Jeffrey Andrews of Jacksonville, was treated and released from a local hospital. He is presently jailed on a long list of charges.
Andrews’ passenger, Homer Padgett of Ocala, is still hospitalized with various injuries. Sheriff's officials say Andrews also has an outstanding warrant in Louisiana for grand theft auto.
