County Wants Old Airport Site

Bay County commissioners are looking into the possibility of buying the old airport site once the facility is moved in several years to an area near West Bay.

Bay County Commissioner George Gainer has suggested, and the board agreed with a 4 to 1 vote, to look into the feasibility of buying the old airport site.

Some officials have put the price tag on the land in excess of $50 million.

The county thinks the site would be an ideal location for consolidated county offices and other public use facilities.

There’s no timetable for the study. Groundbreaking for the new West Bay airport isn’t slated to be held until this coming December.

It should take about five years to build.
