A private plane has crashed in Tallahassee tonight knocking out power to a good portion of the Capitol City, including most of the FSU main Campus.

Eyewitnesses told NewsChannel Seven the plane was flying very low when it went down near a Walgreen's drug store at Tennessee St. and Ocala St. in a heavily populated residential area.

It crashed at approx 8:40 tonight, eastern time. The crash area has been sealed off and traffic is being detoured. Police are keeping spectators from the scene.

Tallahassee police say the pilot was the only one on board the single engine private plane. His identity was not immediately available. But police tell us he was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with a broken leg and possible back injuries.

It appears so far that no one on the ground was injured.

Utility workers are out in force trying to restore electric service , but its not known how long the repiars will take.

first off, I am glad that this man did not die and that no one else was hurt or killed...Secondly, I really wish people would learn to investigate further into things before they make harsh statements in situations that they no nothing about. George-this man was hurt, and I think you owe him an apology for your inconsiderate and rude comment. Love one another, pray for one another, help one another. Don't Assume!!! My prayers still continue for this man and his family...God Bless!!

If this pilot was deliberately flying low, not only should an angry mob hurt him, but lose his piloting license as well along with a federal charge.

There were literally a hundred or more people watching the scene for at least a couple of hours following the crash. In all honesty, there were more people at the scene of the crash than there usually are at most of Tallahassee’s events.
