Memorial Service for Area Soldier Killed in Iraq

Twenty-five-year-old Army Lt. Clifford Gadsden died last Friday when a truck bomb exploded near his convoy in Iraq.

Thursday night his family held a memorial for the soldier who grew up in Fort Walton Beach.

Clifford V. Gadsden was a graduate of Choctawhatchee High School.

At Thursday’s memorial service, his family, friends and even high school football coach shared their memories of the man known as "C-C."

They told the gathering that Clifford served his country well. He put his life of the line.

“He went up there to do what he had to do. He did his job, and I like that.”

Clifford's family has asked in lieu of flowers to please make donations towards the Clifford V. Gadsden Memorial Scholarship Fund, established at the Okaloosa County Teachers Federal Credit Union, 11 NE Racetrack Road, Building 1, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, 32457.

The family is setting up the scholarship in his name to help an ROTC students from the Okaloosa County area further their education.
