Two Florida Highway Patrol troopers who helped save a Bonifay police officer involved in a shootout in March of 2004 have been named the State Troopers of the Year.
Cpl. Richard Warden and Trooper Milton Brown are being recognized for their bravery in a Tallahassee ceremony with the governor and state Cabinet.
On March 27, 2004, both men responded when Bonifay police Ofc. Stephen Lee was shot by Dwayne McWaters.
Lee had responded to McWaters' house on a complaint from neighbors.
When Warden and Brown heard Lee's call for help on their police radios, both went to the scene and helped save Lee's life by using their patrol cars as shields against McWaters’ gunfire.
