Two Local Infants Hospitalized Following Meth Lab Raid

The Florida Department of Children and Families has taken custody of two infants found in a Bear Creek area home Tuesday night. They were found by lawmen that were there investigating reports of a meth lab.

The babies’ mother, 26-year-old Samantha Rose Payne, is being held on $80,000 bond at the Bay County Jail.

Sheriff’s investigators say Payne and Christopher Scotts were making methamphetamine inside the home in the 17,100 block of Highway 231.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the home they found the four-month-old infant unconscious. The other child, also exposed to meth lab fumes, is 15 months old.

Both children were hospitalized in Panama City and have now been turned over to the custody of the state Division of Children and Families.

Jail officials say Scotts hasn’t been booked yet because he is too violent and uncooperative. Both he and Payne are facing a number of drug charges and will also be charged with child abuse and endangerment.
