The Gulf of Mexico Has Claimed Two More Victims

Two persons have drowned in separate incidents on St. George island near Apalachicola.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says Ryan James Slusarski was swimming with several family members when he got caught in a strong undertow or rip current and was pulled under. A child swimming with him was also overcome, but was rescued. Slusarski’s body was recovered about two hours later

In another incident in the same general area of Franklin County, two children on a raft were being swept out into the gulf by the strong current. Their father, Dwayne Vincent jumped in and went to help the children. He too was overcome by the rough surf and strong undertow and was pulled under. The Children were safely rescued.

Despite CPR and the use of AED by the deputies, Vincent was pronounced dead at Weems Memorial hospital in Apalachicola a short time later.
