This week marks the tenth annual National Consumer Protection Week.

Senior citizens are one group that needs help when it comes to saving money, because most live on a fixed income.

The Florida Public Service Commission is helping with that process. They met with senior citizens at the Bay County Council on Aging to teach seniors effective ways to reduce their costs on utilities.

The seniors were given tips from guest speaker Todd Brown of the PSC, and they also got a handful of brochures on energy saving pamphlets. The meeting is helpful because the seniors are usually on a fixed income and need to save as much money as they can.

Todd Brown said, "Well, it's important because money is such an important issue with many seniors. They are on a fixed income and every dollar they can save on their utility bill goes into their pocket to be spent on other things, so it's important for us to tell them easy ways that they can conserve energy in their homes which translates into money."

The Public Service Commission will visit other cities in the state to help more seniors reduce their spending.
