The U.S. Coast Guard from Panama City rescued five people whose fishing trawler was swamped by high seas from Tropical Storm Arlene.
The 37-foot boat, The Happy Hogg, began sinking late Friday evening in the Gulf of Mexico about 21 miles south of Cape san Blas.
A Coast Guard search and rescue helicopter picked up the five crew members and brought them back to the Panama City Airport Satirday night
The men said the boat’s engine had died and the vessel was taking on water rapidly from the rough seas, which ranged to 20 feet.
None of the men were hurt.
