It was set to be a homecoming like no other, and it turned out to be just that.
After a year of being deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, 150 troops from the 144th Transportation Company in Jackson County were formally welcomed home Sunday afternoon.
Thousands filled the streets of Marianna showing symbols of patriotism as the soldiers traveled Highway 90 to the armory where they were greeted with even more fanfare. The soldiers all say it was good to be home.
Sgt. Robinson said, "It feels great. It feels wonderful. Words can't explain this feeling to be back amongst family and friends. Nothing but love, baby; nothing but love."
The Jackson Chamber of Commerce sponsored the homecoming event. The chamber was able to collect enough money from the community to give every soldier a gift bag that included a $70 gift card for Wal-Mart.
