Monique Turenne is accused of beating her husband to death in front of their home in 1996. She fled to Canada after his death and fought extradition for seven years.

In a pretrial hearing Monday, Judge Michael Overstreet decided to allow prosecutors to use statements Turenne gave to Canadian authorities.

The defense wanted those statements thrown out because of questions about how they were obtained. The statements will be allowed in the trial but according to the defense could be questioned again.

Also Monday, four men and four women were selected for the jury in this case. Six will actually deliberate the trial while two will be alternates.

Prosecutors are seeking a maximum sentence of life in jail which only requires six jurors instead of the 12 needed if Turenne were to face the death penalty.

The trial is scheduled to begin at nine Tuesday morning.
