Two Fired Corrections Officers Can Work Again

A Gulf County commissioner who was fired as a prison guard says a state panel has vindicated him and is letting him keep his certification as a correctional officer.

Carmen McLemore was a lieutenant at Gulf Correctional Institution, the state prison near Wewahitchka, when he was dismissed in April 2002. The firing came after he was accused of handcuffing an inmate to a tree and taunting and teasing him.

The Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission has declined to revoke the certification of McLemore and a second fired guard, Chris Wood.

The decision lets both men seek jobs at a state prison or county jail.
