Developers Are Making Way for Another New Luxury Beach Condominium Project

Construction crews are preparing to clear the land at the west end of Middle Beach Road where it connects to Front Beach Road for the new home for the Solimar.

But not everyone is happy about the changes taking place on the beach. A number of visitors say its just one less possibility to find affording vacation lodging.

The Solimar Resort and Spa is an 800 unit, four tower, 22 story beachfront complex
Which the developers hope will turn Panama City Beach into an international luxury travel and living destination.

But some at the beach are not excited. Brad Wallace is a yearly visitor.

“I hate to see it. Yes, I have a lot of memories, my mom and dad, grandparents having fun here. I hate to see it change.”

Another visitor, Rhonda Burns told us, “ I personally don’t like it. I’ve got a baby. We are going to have more babies and we can’t afford to come down here to these condos and what they are going to be charging us. We can’t afford it, so I don’t like it.”

The old Fiesta Motel will be torn down at the beginning of next year. High rise buildings will be in its place and the visitors here will most likely have to find another place to visit.

But the developers say the massive project will be bringing in visitors from all over the world. They see it as a major positive attraction for Panama City Beach.

“Although it may not be where somebody can come for $30 or $40 a night. We’re providing so much more and such a great experience. Even though it will be more costly that what is currently here, people will still come here.”

Construction on the Solimar will begin by next March and it will take about three years to complete.

The plans for the Solimar include a fitness center, full-service spa, several pools, restaurants, and a number of conference facilities.
