Jackson County Schools Open

The last of the area's schools are now open for business.

Jackson County students headed back to class Monday, marking an end to their summer break.

Marianna Middle School, an "A" school for the last five years, is welcoming 13- new teachers onto the faculty. The school is also implementing a "no book bags" rule on campus this year.

School officials say this new rule isn't a reaction to any past problem, just a move to avoid future issues.

Randy Ward, MMS Principal, says, "It's just a preventative measure one thing, a lot of our classrooms are small and we don't need the excess baggage sitting around causing people to trip and that kind of thing."

Franklin and Calhoun County students also returned to school Monday. At last word, everything went smoothly in all three counties.
