Wanna be police chief in Defuniak Springs? All you have to do is apply within.
Within city limits, that is.
The Defuniak Springs City Council is looking for the right person to fill the remaining 20 months in the term of Police Chief Ray Burgess. The only requirement is you live within the city limits of Defuniak Springs.
Burgess resigned last week after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of falsifying documents. It had to do with his desire to hire a former sheriff's deputy.
Defuniak springs is one of two cities in the area which elects its police chief, but if the chief has served more than half his four-year term, a replacement can be named until the next municipal election. Marianna's the other.
