Some of the hardest hit areas of the Panhandle are located far from where Hurricane Dennis made landfall.
Severe tidal flooding has caused extensive damage in some of the coastal communities on the eastern side of the Panhandle. Dennis brought storm surge as high as 12 feet to Wakulla County, which flooded most coastal roads in low-lying areas.
Some of the worst flooding occurred in St. Marks, which sits south of Tallahassee. Residents there had to wade through chest deep water and use boats to get around.
The water had receded by Monday morning allowing local residents and business owners to assess the damage and begin the process of cleaning up.
